The Japan Foundation has been dispatching Japanese-Language Specialists and Junior Specialists (hereafter referred to as Specialists and Junior Specialists) to core Japanese-language educational organizations around the world. They are supporting Japanese-language education in each country by providing classes and advice on teaching methodologies and the preparation of teaching materials.

In March 2009, the Japan Foundation invited 87 educators from 15 countries to Japan for 10 days. The majority of the participants hold important positions within the educational sector of their countries, such as administrators in charge of foreign-language education and the principals of schools with Japanese-language classes.

Japanese people feel refreshed in April when new fiscal year starts. The same is true for us in London, and we are working on the projects organized or supported by the Japan Foundation and on developing new projects and networks.

Cinema Kabuki has achieved its premiere screening in Canada. It was accepted by the Japan Foundation's internal submission program for fiscal 2008 and took place as a pilot project. The result was a promising success in spite of some room for improvement in the near future.

Following the symposium "Stimulating Cities with Art" in Kanazawa City in 2008, the Japan Foundation co-organize Sendai Creative Forum 2009 with Sendai City and the Miyagi Museum of Art, entitled "Crossing Creative Powers - Local to Global, Global to Local -" on March 23, 2009.

The Japan Foundation, Sydney's annual Japanese Film Festival has been drawing attention from local audiences. In December 2008, the 12th Festival was held in Sydney and Melbourne for 13 days with 21 films in total.
