Spreading the Charm of Traditional Japanese Music in Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos: Learning What Our Ancestors Saw and Felt through Traditional Music

From February 21 to March 1, 2013, the Japan Foundation hosted a concert tour of traditional Japanese music in Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos to celebrate the 40th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. A troupe of young and talented traditional Japanese musicians gave performances to appeal especially to younger generations. Tsugaru shamisen player Sho Asano who led the ensemble talked about the tour.

North American Audiences' Reaction to Robotics Theater

From January to March, 2013, the android-human theater Sayonara and the robot-human theater I, Worker toured North American. The two plays were presented by playwright and stage director Oriza Hirata's Seinendan Theater Company. Futoshi Miyai, Japan Society's Deputy Director of Performing Arts, reports on the reaction of American and Canadian audiences to these robot-human productions.
